‘71 Mercury Montego 351
Is very nice!
Don’t think I’ve ever seen one before, either.

Yes, yes, a thousand times yes!
And I didn’t even look at the listing yet.

Dude, I need you to buy this. I’ll be down in about 6 weeks, and I’ll Turo it from you for the two weeks I’m there. C’mon, help an Oppo out.

Assuming the underbody is not 100% rust, NP

Would love to but I only have that much in Kinja dollars and they aren’t even worth as much as Doge Coin!

Tentative NP, needs a much closer inspection for rust (just like any car this old).
Where is MontegoMan??

No, I meant this guy - he’s in Michigan somewhere, this car is up his alley:

I have a slight pet peeve about people listing 351 Ford engines without saying whether they’re Cleveland or Windsor. I mean how much effort is it to type a C or W? Less than me inspecting the valve covers and thermostat housing. Anyway, that’s a good looking car for sure and ‘71 and earlier is always nice.

I was not familiar with this Opponaut

Good point

He has been less active lately, but he’s still around - he used to have a Montego, a couple of years older than this one I think.

What’s the difference?

They’re completely different engines with different blocks and head designs. The Windsor is basically the same as the 302 with a higher deck block to allow for a longer stroke while the Cleveland was totally unrelated.

BETTER LATE THAN NEVER
Every once in a long, long while i’ll search “M ontego” on here to see who found what.
M ine was a 1968 Mercury Montego MX with Cyclone Package and had a 302 in it. Great car. One day the Capri will be equally if not more awesome....when it’s not -30 outside I might work on it.
This one is a cool green !
Also, we might need to become facebook friends at some point so we don’t miss things for so long...

I show up every once in a while, my work keeps me off OPPO a lot more these days than it used to.
As I said above, i owned a 68 Mercury Montego MX Cyclone Package that I sold a few years ago and bought a 1982 Mercury Capri RS 5.0 4 speed that’s (slowly) becoming a rallyX car.

Haha - I figured you’d like this, sorry you didn’t see it sooner!
I look forward to seeing more of the Capri soon - unfortunately, though, I don’t really do FB (have an account that I don’t use).
Any thoughts about bringing the Cask back by chance?
Stay warm! !

I have been considering launching it as a stand alone website actually. It is too much work/investment to have it keep getting lost in kinja. Interested in investing? lol

I would sign up for that!
As far as investment goes, the best I could do is send a bottle to try every once in a while. Speaking of which, I just bought this on the recommendation of my local store, but haven’t tried it yet.

Fascinating, let me know how it is!
And I’ll let you know if something comes about. If I got bottles sent in there would DEFINITELY be a hat tip/call out to the donator.

Will do! May be the weekend before I get to it--
